What do I need to set up Passkeys for my account?

Last updated: March 30, 2026

If you're setting up Passkeys for the first time, please verify the following prerequisites are met to make your Passkey experience a smoother one.

  • We also strongly recommend setting up Account Recovery once you've setup your Passkeys to ensure you're able to regain access even if you have issues with your Passkeys.
  • If your laptop doesn't meet the minimum requirements for passkeys, you can register using your smartphone instead. The passkey will be created and stored on your smartphone and can be used to sign in on your laptop by scanning a QR code with the device that holds the passkey.
  • Passkeys created using native OS tools cannot be exported to other devices. We recommend using a password manager to create and store passkeys, as this allows access across multiple devices by syncing the passkey through the password manager.
The device’s system time must be within 30 seconds of the actual current time.

Windows OS

For devices running Windows OS, please ensure your device meets the following requirements:

Requirement Details
Windows OS Version

Check your version of Windows. Older versions may not support Passkeys. If you are facing issues, we recommend using:

  1. Windows 10 version 1903 or newer;
  2. Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer
Supported Browsers

Outdated browsers may not support passkeys. We recommend using the following browser versions for the best experience:

Chrome - version 108 or newer

Edge - version 108 or newer

Safari - version 16.1 or newer

Firefox* - version 122 or newer

Opera - version 97 or newer

*For Firefox, please select the "Sign in with passkey" option to use passkeys.

Device Capabilities Depending on the type of passkey you’d like to use, your device may require certain capabilities - e.g. a fingerprint reader or facial recognition camera.
Password Manager
(Recommended)

Once you have verified the above, we recommend saving and using passkeys with Google Password Manager, 1Password, Proton Pass or other third-party password managers that enable passkey synchronization across devices (i.e. allow you to login to the Dashboard via different devices).

Note: For password managers, please ensure that the relevant browser extensions are enabled and that you are logged into them to facilitate storage & accessing of Passkeys.

Windows Hello Enabled

If you still encounter issues saving your passkey, you may first need to enable Windows Hello on your device

Navigate to the Settings app on your device, then select Accounts > Sign-in options. Choose a Windows Hello Sign in option, and follow the set-up steps. Once complete, you may re-attempt creating your passkeys.

Note: Passkeys saved on Windows Hello may be device-bound, meaning you'll need to set up passkeys on each device you'd wish to access your account from.

Note: If you are using a company or enterprise managed device, you may have to work with your IT support team to configure your device accordingly.

Mac OS

For devices running Mac OS, please ensure your device meets the following requirements:

We recommend using macOS Ventura (macOS 13) or later for the best experience with passkeys.

If using a macOS version before Ventura (13.0), your device must also have a Touch ID sensor to create a passkey.
